At first this might look hard to use, you should need a 2 hour tutorial to get up and running, but it is a very powerful tool if you want to use it for measuring areas, planning pipelines, measuring heights, doing stats, etc. Having said that, if you have an inclination not towards graphical perfection but more towards geographical or technical accuracy, then you should probably use a GIS (Geographical Information Software), like Quantum GIS.
